Jan Scholten
Jan Scholten is a Dutch practitioner of homeopathy, author of several books, and researcher in this field. He is best known for his theories and observations concerning the use of minerals and chemical elements and their salts in homeopathy. He was the first to described and introduce the lanthanides and their salts, in potentized forms, in homeopathic preparations for pathology.
Before starting his medical education he first studied chemistry for 2 years and philosophy for 3 years. Scholten received a MD degree in 1983. Then he studied homeopathy and acupuncture. Among others Roger Morrison, George Vithoulkas, Alphons Geukens, Kÿnzli and Bill Gray belonged to his teachers. After finishing the study of homeopathy in 1985 he started a classical homeopathic practice. He is the co-founder of the “Homeopathic Doctors Center Utrecht”, founded in 1988, in Utrecht. He is also familiar with many other alternative medicines, like orthomolecular medicine, herbalism, and Bach remedies.[1] He calls himself “homo universalis” – a scientist well known in all fields of science. According to him medicine, psychology, mythology, chemistry, physics, biology and religion come together in homeopathy. Scholten is interested in a human being, the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects in the state of health and disease.
Scholten’s first book, Homoeopathy and Minerals, was published in 1993, and has been translated into 10 languages. In this book, Scholten describes the use of minerals in homeopathy, especially unknown remedies, and introduced a new method of analysis he called group analysis. This, Scholten claimed, makes it possible to predict the “homeopathic pictures” of unknown remedies, and to handle the huge amount of information in homeopathy; as the “essential characteristics of a group of remedies” with the same element are being extracted.
Scholten’s second book, Homeopathy and the Elements, appeared in 1996 and became a standard in homeopathy. The book contains a homeopathic analysis of all the elements of the periodic table of Mendeleev. The classification of homeopathic remedies by using the periodic table was named the element theory. Scholten divided the elements into 7 series, corresponding with the rows of the periodic system, and 18 stages, corresponding with the columns of the periodic system.
His most recent book, Wonderful Plants, is ground-breaking in its presentation of Plant Theory which “represents another evolutionary leap forward for the homeopathic profession.”

Pat Deacon first came to homeopathy in the early 1980’s as a last resort in the search for help with one of her son’s severe allergies.
She was so amazed and impressed with the results that she decided to study homeopathy herself. Upon graduation, she set up practices in Saffron Walden, Essex and in Cambridge, and registered with the Society of Homeopaths (UK).
In 1999, Pat returned to Canada, where she lived in the Okanagan Valley and practiced there and in Vancouver for 9 years. She currently resides in Ontario. Pat studied formally with Louis Klein FSHom, her main teacher, on the Homeopathic Master Clinician (HMC) course. While in Britain and in the years since, she has also attended seminars with many other homeopathic teachers, notably with Jan Scholten and Ulrich Welte.
